The Plan
Our church members, through the community center, were able to mobilize within a few days, gathering toiletries and non-perishable items, and come up with a plan to distribute 70 of these care bags to the immediate neighbors of the church in Manoa, as well as to all the Meals on Wheels clients in all of Manoa.
Meals on Wheels is a program that delivers meals to certain homebound seniors with underlying health conditions–the most vulnerable of our population right now. HMoW – Hawaii Meals on Wheels

Adapting
Our plans to distribute 130 more bags the following week were put on hold after the Mayor issued the Stay at Home order that week, but we were still able to take another 40 or so to a neighboring elderly care home as well as to some other needy neighbors of church members.
We have spread the word that we are able to help those who need help, such as grocery shopping or other errands, through our facebook page, our website, email, and word of mouth.

We’ve received a flood of emails, texts, and phone calls by community members who expressed their gratitude for the care bags and their commitment to sharing the supplies with others who need it.
